Crime and Sloth

Well, today's production of news has started with a robbery in downtown Zagreb. They apparently robbed a goldsmith, injured a man and tied up a pregnant woman. Nothing seems more or less exciting than this, depending on your soul type. But let's examine this a bit further.
For my foreign audience, crime was tenfold less present in Croatia during the previous regime. I don't think it is useful to consider these people as outcasts and wonder at the anomaly. Rather, they are a symptom of society. The what surfaces.
It is quite easy not to understand people, but as many novelists testify - their aim is to bring different people closer to you - to try to understand them.
And what can one say of the British style "journalist" craze: a layer of Libya, a layer of anonimous and horrid strangler cases? It would seem cultural studies, a study of popular culture, a British invention itself, like anything else, is a half-mistake: or simply a waste of time.
