Dad's Tune by Đorđe Balašević

"Don't ever bother asking why
marigold flower had to die
I can't recall, it's a longish story

Don't ask here in front of all
what lies there in this glass so tall
don't ever trouble asking why I drink

Better I had no damn hat
the Devil naps underneath
dreams and asks for things, Devil is to blame

Wakes me up in bad hour
he doesn't stick to plan
he must try all if sour
asks wine from man

I don't drink cause I like it
nor cause it becomes me well
I drink to quench his thirst a bit

Don't ask please, I can't say
which star will go out of way
which button will fall off my coat

Don't ask why it is after all
all dogs bark after me, doll
don't ever trouble asking why I roam

Better I had no damn hat
the Devil naps underneath
dreams and asks for things, Devil is to blame

Wakes me up in bad hour
he doesn't stick to plan
he must try all if sour
his place he asks from man

I don't roam cause I like it
nor cause I like the road
I roam to tire his strength a bit

Don't ask me if I'm cold
while I choose a bold stone
with gypsies in this dew and rain

Don't ask me why the sparrow
won't fiddle just any morrow
don't ever ask why I play

Better I had no damn hat
the Devil naps underneath
dreams and asks for things, Devil is to blame

Wakes me up in bad hour
he doesn't stick to plan
he must try all if sour
his tune he asks from man

I don't play cause I like it
it ain't a real tune
I play to hush him up a bit"
