Well, we got ourselves an underground hacker group that are the news of the day: now, this seems like something straight out of young Asimov. I can already picture some future battles around fields of servers.

The preceding article is, of course, slightly alarming. And it is fairly difficult for anybody to have any clear thinking here. But, that said, would it be logical that such a rift occurred in the US?
