Hack Says..

Didn't I tell you how I love statistics? I love statistics. Of course, it is mostly blind to metaphysics, but a metaphysician in the end has to recourse to statistics.

This is none of that shallow preaching on how majority should decide - it's about the majority that inevitably decides.

Take a look at the world of famous interpretation. To reach any consensus about world literature, somebody has to reread all the works each time and explain himself. He must, for example, persuade others this is so.

Now add a touch of "imperfection:" scheming, prestige of being smart etc. and you get the full picture. But it's about statistics.

It's the same in any field. Gadamer explained imperfect understanding always happens: and what is true of ourselves is also true of others.

And in this quite practical, down to Earth sense (because none returned to tell us about something different to be feared) - we will be judged. We are, every day, indeed.

Some might take it lightly, but as a Croatian skier said yesterday in connection to cheating in sport: shame will remain. But look at how beautiful: we can be convinced of ill-deserved shame.
